Mideast Ship Management chooses Dualog

AW_M-2

Mideast Ship Management has chosen Dualog Connection Suite for its entire fleet of about 40 tankers.

“We need complete control of our activities if we are to make the right decisions at any given time. Communication is the very heart of our business,” says Waleed Al Emeim, Purchasing Manager at Mideast Ship Management Ltd., regarding the reason for their choice of Dualog as the company’s data communication solution.

The company is owned by the Bahri corporation of Saudi Arabia and has its offices in Armada Towers, Dubai. Mideast Ship Management operates about 40 tankers all over the world, and is in a process of constant growth.

The deployment of Dualog Connection Suite is well underway, and IT Manager Ahmed Basha confirms the good experience. He also reports good feedback from the ships. “It is also important that the crew has free access to email, while at the same time we are given full control of the bandwidth and costs.”

Rickmers Reederei chooses Dualog

120 container vessels, 4000 employees
Rickmers was established as early as 1853, and has 120 container vessels in operation on all the world’s oceans. Their headquarters are in Hamburg, but Rickmers has more than 20 offices in, amongst other places, Singapore, Tokyo, India and all over Europe and America. Altogether, the company employs over 4000 people.

It started with testing, on board 5 ships. Then 20 ships. And by the end of this year, Rickmers will have installed Dualog Connection Suite on over 40 ships.

“Yes, that’s the deal with Dualog,” says Peter Ullmann, chief of Network Operations at the German giant Rickmers Reederei.

Future ready
“Our old e-mail system was beginning to fail, and at the same time stronger demands were made by the crews for their own, private email accounts. It was time for something new, and consequently we assessed a number of different data communication alternatives,” says Ullmann with regard to the process leading up to their choice of Dualog.

Just right
“Dualog deliver quality, and at the same time, the company is neither too small nor too big. When we call support, for instance, we encounter a person we already know – familiar faces. It is almost as much a friendly relationship as it is business,” says Ullmann.

Traditional Sailing Ships chooses Dualog

“We are proud to see that Dualog Connection Suite is being used on the old, traditional tall ships ‘Sørlandet’ (1927) and ‘Statsraad Lehmkuhl’ (1914). This gives the young cadets on these training ships an excellent start to their sailing careers”, says Lars Martinussen, Sales Manager Europe.

Stanford Marine chooses Dualog

“Dualog are very much on the ball,” says a clearly satisfied Darren Reeves, Operations Manager at offshore supply company Stanford Marine in Dubai. “Previously, we used several different service providers, and at times this could be very problematic. Dualog provides us with standardization, something we have a very strong belief in,” says Darren Reeves, Operations Manager at Stanford Marine in Dubai.

“From my office in Dubai, I can now monitor the data communication on any of our ships, at any given time, and make sure that everything is working as it should,” adds IT Superintendent Albert Chang.

Cost and usage control
“In addition, we can control how much bandwidth is being used at any given time,” commends Chang, who is also very satisfied with Dualog’s anti-virus software.

Dualog on over 40 ships
Dualog Connection Suite was installed on the first ships at Stanford Marine last year. Reeves reckons that all their ships will have Dualog installed by the end of 2012

eCatch chosen on two newbuildings in Norway

Two brand new Norwegian fishing vessels have chosen eCatch for electronic reporting of catch and catch activity. They are joining more than 500 other fishing vessels already using eCatch for their day to day mandatory electronic reporting and commercial reporting.

Frøyanes

Owned by Ervik Havfiske, the 60 meter long autoliner Frøyanes is Norway´s largest longliner. She is probably the world´s most advanced fishing vessel.  There is no vaste at all as 100% of the fish is frosen, filleted or canned. The diesel electric propulsion system secures high energy efficiency and a low emission rate.  The crew facilites are excellent including Internet, email, sauna, cinema etc.

Ervik Havfiske uses eCatch for mandatory electronic reporting to the Fisheries Authorites, for or their own commercial reporting and for documentation according to the MSC and KRAV environmental certification.

37 floating offices

"We have 37 floating offices ", says IT Manager Jørgen Liberg for Nordic Tankers illustrating how he thinks strategy.

"Things need to be kept simple. People need selfservice on board just as they do on shore. Th company needs to focus on core business and tanker operations, not unnecessary data mangement", says Liberg.

In short, it is simplicity, efficiency and reliability that are the grounds on whtich Nordi Tankers chose Dualog connection Suite as the fleet´s communications solution.

They got Dualog ready wrapped

"A regual PC, after all, offers only limited security, especially on a ship with all the shaking and other movements", Gaarder explains, referring to the fan-based cooling system in a normal PC. Consequently, the result for Mowinckel was that Dualog software was packed into an industrial PC cooled by a system of ribs.

Mowinckel Shipping has a fleet of chemical tankers and dry cargo vessels, operating in Europe, Africa and South America.

"With Dualog Connection Suite we can manage all our ships from one place."

Today all sailors need the Internet

"All sailors must have their own personal e-mail address, Internet connection and PC".

With that, Captain Søren G.Krarup-Jensen has probably also explained the most important reason why the company has chosen Dualog Connection Suite to manage their fleet´s commuications solution.

"Personal e-mail has become incredibly important. In today´s world, this is how people stay in touch with their families. And tehy can also keep up with how their friends are doing on Facebook. We can´t retain and recruit sailors if these things are not in place" asserts Krarup-Jensen.

Dualog releases Software for IP Airtime Control / Cost Control

Dualog® Pro™ is a software extension to Connection Suite that enables control of user access as well as allowed volume when using IP-based communication systems like FleetBroadband, OpenPort and VSAT. This is a
"must" for ships using Fleet Broadband and Iridum Open Port in order to control and save cost.

The company administrator can set up restrictions in order to block, restrict or open different IP-based services like email, web surfing, MSN, Facebook, Skype, file downloads etc per individual user or user group on the ship.

Another important feature is the ability to handle automatic failover from one IP-carrier, i.e VSAT to a different IP-carrier, i.e FleetBroadband. When doing so, DuaCore Pro can change the rules regarding user access in order to save cost.
